PAST, PRESENT, FUTURE
A glimpse into my past: Since childhood, I’ve always been a creator. Drawing, painting, ceramics, you name it, but it wasn’t until I was 19 that I made my first piece of jewelry. Through my desire to merge high-end sculpture with everyday functionality, I thought jewelry would be the perfect fusion. Then sure enough, In 2013 I graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City with a degree in Jewelry Design. With nothing tying me to NYC, I picked up and moved. On the evening of my last class, I set off for Chicago, driving overnight to a city I had only visited once before. It took me about two years after the move to sit down at my bench again. When I did, I quickly remembered how much I loved to create in wax, which is how all of my jewelry begins.
The path to the present: In 2016, a close friend of mine asked me to make her a ring, saying simply “surprise me.” I thought, okay, what is something she loves the most in this world? The obvious answer was her dog, Pebbles. With that in mind, I went ahead and sculpted my first ever pup, a tiny dachshund that she still wears every day. Soon after, I began to receive requests for all kinds of custom pup commissions. Finally, in 2018 I launched my signature “Luxe Pup Collection,” a hand-sculpted line of detailed dog rings and necklaces with endless breed possibilities. I’ll be honest, it’s always fun to compare that first ring to my current collection because of how simplistic it was. Though, I will always look back on it fondly since it truly was the original “Luxe Pup” that started it all.
A plan for the future: The “Luxe Pup Collection” is expanding by the minute, but I am excited to say that it won’t stop there. With all this talk of dogs, I bet you couldn’t tell that I’m a cat lady at heart. Naturally, this means that a collection of cats is a must for the future of Tori Love Jewelry. And if you don’t see your cat, dog, bird or lizard yet, I am always happy to create something custom. And it’s not just animals, the shapes and sizes of my rings and necklaces have no bounds, and I always love challenging myself with new and unexpected projects!
In the beginning, every piece of Tori Love jewelry starts as a block of hard wax that is intricately carved by hand. Each master model takes 8-12 hours to complete, ensuring that all of the tiniest details have been accounted for. After it is finished, the model is taken locally to be cast into solid sterling silver or 14k gold using the lost-wax process. After the freshly cast piece is picked up, it is polished by hand, carefully packaged in a gift box, and then sent off to its new home.
